This is the wave that won me the Pipeline Masters 39 years ago in 1980. It was perfect Pipe & Backdoor. With 6 surfers in the final & no priority rule there was some intense radical hassling. We were all trying to take off on the wrong side of the peak to get barrelled. As you can imagine with about 3 good waves in a set there were a lot of situations with a surfer on each side of the peak paddling for the same wave. It was a fine line as to who went & who pulled back with the threat of an interference call constantly possible if no one pulled back. It got really intense as no one wanted to give in. The board is Round Pin Single Fin. It’s 7’0″ long & I shaped, sprayed & glassed it. That year I had 2 of these 7’0″ boards in identical colors. I still have the one in the photo which was the one I liked the best & rode in the contests. I don’t know who took the photo, I saw this shop posted by @silversurfer0161 @bernie_baker1 @merkelmedia #markrichardssurfboards #markrichardscolordesigns #markrichardssprays #mrsinglefin #mrretrosinglefin #mr1979retrosinglefin #mr1979retrosinglefinmodel #mr1979retrocontestquiver #mr1979hawaiicontestquiver
