A shot from Bells from the mid 1970’s

A shot from Bells from the mid 1970’s. The board under my arm is a “Sting” shaped by Ben Aipa which was made in Hawaii. At this stage of Ben’s progress with advancing the design he was experimenting with a chime on the bottom edge of the rail which ran from the nose tip back to the Sting. It went really well but possibly not as good as the previous boards I had from him with a regular soft rail. This board was glassed with a yellow tint on both sides & it had red & black pigment arcs on the deck. Back in those days wetsuits were nowhere near as stretchy or flexible as they are today. I usually wore a long John at Bells so my arms weren’t restricted for paddling. This board is currently owned by Luke Carter & the photo was taken by Dick Hoole. @ljmrc @aipasurf @dukeaipa @akila_aipa @bellst204 @jackmccoyaloha #bellsbeach #benaipahawaii #benaipasurfboards
