A shot from the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in 1980

A shot from the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in 1980. I have really good memories of competing there, Rip Curl founders Doug Warbrick & Brian Singer would always go out of their way to find the best surf possible over the Easter break. They would not hesitate to move to Winki Pop, north to 13th beach or a few hours south to Johanna whenever they deemed Bells not good enough. I’m riding a 6’2″, 201/4″ wide by 23/4″ thick Twin Fin. This is the board my 1980 Retro Twin Fin model is replicated from. My Bells quiver consisted of two boards, the 6’2″ for small surf & a 6’4″ Twin Fin in case it got big.
